I have worked and played, more often the latter, in IT since the age of 13. I started by writing arcade games in assembler, just one level up from bits and bytes, on the Commodore Amiga. A fine machine in its time, but the average mobile phone nowadays has more raw computing power.
Even after we moved aboard I found it hard to let go. Half way through our second year in the Med’ the itch returned with a vengeance and I ordered Microsoft’s latest set of development tools, which was shipped to us by Amazon to the marina at Bastia in Corsica, and started tinkering again. I just love creating software and am currently working on a project in C#, JavaScript and ASP.NET – don’t worry if these mean nothing to you, they are the tools that most modern software for Windows XP is being developed in.
As we have cruised we have met many fellow liveaboards and more often than not, when it becomes apparent that I know a bit about computers, the questions start flying - which I do not mind at all – I get a kick from making recalcitrant computers do what you want.
This section of our website provides information on most of the areas that people have discussed over the last five years. It is solely concerned with systems running Windows XP or Windows 2000.
