Benodet, 2 June 2005

From Camaret to Benodet you pass the Raz de Sein, the next tidal gateway on this coast. We had to time our departure so that we arrived at the Raz at slack water. This meant either an 0450 departure or an 1100 departure. We chose the earlier start in order that we might achieve three hours of passage making before any little ones needed much attention. The plan worked quite well. Some dolphins later made an appearance and Poppy was 'hauled' on deck to enjoy their acrobatic display alongside Barrique.

We spent five days waiting in Benodet for suitable weather to leave for L'Orient. At Benodet, for the first time this trip, we started to notice a lot of British yachts. Five years ago, at roughly the same time of year, we hardly saw any British yachts cruising this coast. The weather is no better this time around, so people must now have itchier feet?

One of our days here was used by taking the bus to Quimper , where we explored the picturesque half-timbered streets, the cathedral and art gallery, enjoying a very pleasant lunch in a small restaurant tucked down a side-street.
